Ventnor Rugby Club Donates £500 to CRY Charity

Ventnor Rugby Club donates £500 to CRY Charity (Cardiac Risk in the Young) – Isle of Wight Randonnée 2025

Ventnor Rugby Club once more acted as a marshalling post and feeding station for Sunday’s Isle of Wight Randonnée which was a spectacularly successful event with over 3000 registered cyclists taking part.

Under the leadership of Roly Toombs, the Ventnor RFC team supplied hot food, filled rolls, fruit and confectionery as well as teas and coffees to the participants throughout the day and additionally were able to provide some entertainment as Raw Samba’s drummers and dancers performed outside the clubhouse at midday.

From the proceeds taken on the day, the club made a presentation of a cheque for £500 to Gordon Brember of Havant Rugby Club.

Gordon lost his son Richard in 2018 due to an undiagnosed cardiac condition and every year rides the Randonnee in memory of the times he rode it with Richard. A connection was made last year which Ventnor Rugby Club were delighted to be able to continue into this year’s event and make the donation personally to Gordon and his team of riders.

The £500 will go to the CRY Charity (Cardiac Risk in the Young) which raises awareness to help prevent young sudden cardiac deaths, through awareness campaigns, fundraising events and media outreach. CRY works to save young lives and prevent avoidable tragedies as well as support bereaved families.

Ventnor Rugby Club would like to thank Norris Family Grocers in Niton and Briddlesford Lodge Farm for their support of the event.
